Viewing Password-Protected PDFs
Learn how to view password-protected PDF files directly within FileInvite. When borrowers upload password-protected PDFs, you can now unlock and preview them without needing to download the file first.
If your FileInvite Login URL ends in fileinvite.com, please use this knowledge base instead.
How It Works
When a borrower uploads a password-protected PDF to an Invite, FileInvite preserves the original file security. You can view these protected documents by clicking the eye icon next to the file in the invite, then entering the password to unlock the preview.
Viewing a Password-Protected PDF
- Navigate to your Invite and locate the Returned Files for the request containing the password-protected PDF
- Click the eye icon next to the file name
- When prompted, enter the password in the Password field
- Click Unlock to display the document in the preview

Note: The password field only appears when you attempt to preview a password-protected PDF. Standard PDFs will open immediately without this prompt.
Downloading Protected Files
You can download password-protected PDFs at any time without entering a password:
- The original file downloads with its password protection intact
- You'll need to use the password in your PDF viewer to open the downloaded file
- Use the Upload New Files button or download options as usual
Important: FileInvite does not remove password protection from uploaded files. The password requirement is preserved to maintain document security.
💡 Best Practice: If borrowers frequently upload password-protected files, consider requesting the passwords in advance or asking them to remove protection before uploading when appropriate for your workflow.
